The greatest loss- loss of Self respect!

09 Mar

These powerful words couldn’t go away without some thinking. Why losing self respect is the greatest loss?

As human beings, each of us is unique in our own ways. Being born as a baby, and growing as an adult- every day we are adding our own characteristics to our personality. We develop our own culture from whatever we perceived. Everything related to us- family, friends, school, and all other social activities is important to make that person in us. Accepting everything about a person is important for him/her to be confident. Sometimes even negative experiences make us strong too, so it is important to accept them rather than denying. Self-respect will come only through acceptance.

Without self-respect, a person is not living his/her own life, but someone else’s. They deny who they are and accept whatever others say about them. Think about the story ‘The Emperor’s new clothes‘. He was so fond of clothes, and so two clever weavers decided to take advantage of him. They made him believe he was wearing their invisible woven clothes, which were not existing. The emperor knew he wore nothing, but weavers made him believe it saying only intelligent people can see it. Others also knew he didn’t have clothes, but to make themselves smart in front of the emperor, they also said it is great. Isn’t it like that we behave always? Like the naked emperor? Deny who we are and try to be what others want.. and suffer for that?

When ‘I’ lose self-respect, then ‘I’ am not there. That is the death of ‘I’ in me. So the greatest loss is self-respect, where ‘I’ dies…. living without self-respect, is the life of a dead person. Keep our self-respect always, to live this life meaningfully.
